Newsy Nuggets: Starry future, tastes of not-Baldwin Park, and new hotel restaurants

Michelin Man

The Florida Michelin Guide updates will be announced on April 18, and while I already told you the names of the restaurants that will be added to the guide in some way – whether as recommended restaurants, Bib Gourmands or starred we don’t know yet – I can tell you that according to my sources at least one newly-starred Orlando restaurant will be added to the list. Can’t tell you the name yet, but you won’t be surprised. Or at least you won’t be as surprised as when the restaurant first entered the list without a star.

What’s it like to eat Baldwin Park? That question may go unanswered Thursday at the Taste of Baldwin Park, the annual event featuring almost no Baldwin Park restaurants. It’s on New Broad Street from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. and tickets are available here.

Hotel Landy has opened on Universal Boulevard along with its signature restaurant, Émilie Bar & Lounge, which serves such things as prosciutto flatbread, wild mushroom tagliatelle, and “crushed avocado,” which sounds a lot like guacamole.

Another new hotel, Conrad Orlando, has also opened its top restaurant, Cieba, on the resort’s seventh floor. There you’ll find “Mayan marinated pork” (though I doubt they use real Mayans), braised short rib with “moles” (ditto on the moles), and Ceiba Guacamole, made with crab meat and caviar. Can’t I just have crushed avocados?
