The Whiskey, the fun Restaurant Row tavern with good food, has reopened under the state’s Phase 1 guidelines. I have not reopened myself to in-house dining just yet, but I was anxious to get some of the Whiskey’s good food for takeout.

As always, the Whiskey Burger was a must – it’s a winner of a Best Burger Foodster Award – and it didn’t disappoint. It featured a thick patty, cooked to the requested medium-rare temperature (and didn’t overcook on the drive home), with bacon and smoked gouda, some spicy leaves of arugula, grilled onions and a slather of dill aioli on a fresh, toasted bun.
I also had the Smoked Brisket Grilled Cheese, served on griddled Texas toast with slices of brisket and melted gruyere between the slices. It came with a container of barbecue sauce that I used to dip the sandwich in instead of slather it on. I also dipped the seasoned fries in it, though ketchup was provided. The burger came with fries as well.
The over-the-phone ordering process was smooth, and when I called the restaurant from the parking lot, a staffer quickly brought the food out to place in my trunk.
Everything was packaged neatly, and they even included packets of utensils and napkins. They were appreciated but not needed. It was all finger food, and when you’ve got a burger this big and juicy, only a large linen napkin will suffice.
The Whiskey is at 7563 W. Sand Lake Road, Orlando. It is currently open for dine in and takeout daily from noon to midnight. The phone number is 407-930-6517.
