Steak on Fire

Steak on Fire describes itself as “a Brazilian restaurant on bread,” something I have a hard time visualizing. But I suppose it’s better than describing itself as a Brazilian restaurant on fire.

Basically we’re talking about sandwiches. But big sandwiches. Maybe not so big that you could put a whole building on it, but pretty big nonetheless.

Steak on Fire is a quick-serve operation. You order your sandwich at the counter, take your tablestand with a number on it to one of the booths and then wait for someone to bring the order to you.

The sandwich comes wrapped in red and white checkerboard paper on a wooden cutting board. The bread is a rather substantial ciabatta roll. What’s inside is up to you, as long as you like meat.

I had the flank steak, which included a good portion of nicely grilled and well-seasoned meat with red peppers and onions, also grilled, also nicely. There was a bit of chimichurri sauce, but I would have liked more. In all, a good sandwich.

By the way, if you prefer your Brazilian restaurants without bread, you may order “on plate,” in which case you also get thin-sliced baked potato and a mix of grilled vegetables, both extra if you get the “on bread” option. Most sandwiches range from $9.49 to $15.95. My flank was $11.95 — there was enough meat to justify that, but many might balk at a 12 buck sandwich.

Steak on Fire is the project of brothers André and Bruno Andreoli, natives of Southern Brazil and graduates of Duke University. The place looks franchise-ready, so expect to see more Brazilian restaurants on bread.

It’s an attractive space that features a brick wall with whitewashed stenciling. A herringbone pattern wood floor leads to the ordering counter at the far end of the narrow room. Staff was welcoming and accommodating.

Vegetarians should know that there isn’t much on the menu for them. You might want to look into Veggies on Fire.

Steak on Fire is at 7541 W. Sand Lake Road, Orlando. It is open for lunch and dinner daily. The phone number is 407-440-2323.
