Softly As I Open

Two new businesses have soft-opened, the culinary equivalent of a Broadway preview.

Pour Choice Taphouse, the “pour it yourself; what do I look like, a bartender?” concept in the Mills 50 district with customer-operated taps, activated the spigots last week. The taproom, at 1223 N. Mills Ave., promises 50 beers, wines and ciders accessible from a long line of taps on the wall over a trough that looks disturbingly like a stainless steel urinal you might see at a stadium. And with a name like Pour Choice, anything can happen.

One district over, in the Milk, a new food hall, Milkhouse Eatery & Cocktails, started its soft serve phase, appropriate since one of its tenants is Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream. Also on, um, tap, will be beers from Ravenous Pig Brewing Co. and something unfortunately called Milkhouse Beer. Cocktails will be slung by associates of Courtesy Bar in downtown Orlando. There will also be food.

Remember, these places are in previews so don’t expect everyone to know their lines.
