Pointe due for a sharpening

Pointe Orlando, the dining and entertainment complex on International Drive, will undergo a $32 million 12-month redevelopment project beginning this fall.

A major part of the redo is to include a 100-foot passageway called The Link (shown at top just under Taverna Opa), which will provide a covered walkway from Blue Martini’s valet entrance on International Drive to Main Event Entertainment.

An escalator will be added for easier access to second-level businesses, such as Taverna Opa and Regal Cinemas.

The complex’s two valet stations will get canopies and will be reconfigured to handle increased capacity. Anyone who has used the valet drop off in front of the Capital Grille on a busy night knows what a cluster that can be.

Speaking of Capital Grille, the pond in front of it is going away to create a seating area. The corners of the property will have new branding sculptures.

Pointe Orlando, which opened in 1998, is a popular destination for convention goers but also attracts locals because of its dining options. The complex has added 70,000 square feet in the past two years. New businesses include Main Event Entertainment, Hopdoddy Burger Bar and Lotus Asia House. A new restaurant, the Hampton Social, is scheduled to open this fall — just in time for the construction, which is set to begin in September.

Pointe Orlando is owned and operated by Brixmor Property Group, a New York company that specializes in open-air shopping centers.
