Clearly, we’re going to need more chickens.
Earlier this week I told you about Chicken Guy! opening late summer in Winter Park. Previously, it was announced that Arkansas-based Slim Chickens is eyeing Central Florida, as are Raising Cane’s and Cowboy Chicken. And Bojangles is returning.
Now, we learn that Jam Hot Chicken, which has been operating as a popup, will plop down in Hannibal Square in a walk-up window operation previously occupied by Sausage Shack of Winter Park (sausages are so last year).

And 4 Rivers Smokehouse is once again partnering with PDQ, a Tampa-born chickenwicherie, to sell a barbecue chicken sandwich to benefit 4Roots, the charitable foundation of 4 Rivers. The sandwich, pictured at top, will be available in area PDQs beginning June 15 through August 2. The two restaurant companies previously partnered on a sandwich project in 2016.
PDQ, by the way, doesn’t mean what you’re thinking it means. It stands for People Dedicated to Quality. I’ve not eaten at one, but it’s possible the food also comes out pretty damn quick.
The restaurant at Margaritaville Resort Orlando previously known as Eurphoria is now known as Euphoria Fish House. I suppose we should be grateful they didn’t call it Euphoria Chicken House.
Sugar Dough Bakehouse, a sister project to Light on the Sugar Bakery Cafe (imagine the sibling rivalry there), will open in July in the former Blue Bird Bakery space in Audubon Park. Tragically, Blue Bird was mistaken for a chicken and is no longer with us.
