Newsy Nuggets: The Drake, H&H Bagels, Voodoo Bayou, Short Stroll to Sip & Savor, and cruising with Collantes

The Drake Kitchen + Bar, from chefs and co-owners Heberto and Rona Segura, officially opened last week at the Radius apartment following a ceremony by mayor Buddy Dyer. You can’t get any more official than having the city’s top official officiating.

I’ll have a full review coming up, but I can tell you that it’s a lovely space with food brought to you from chefs with street cred (the street being wherever they parked their popular food truck). Here’s a link to the website.

As I write this, I’m sitting in my suite at the Hotel Chelsea, so this is an appropriate time to tell you the H&H Bagels, once a legend in New York City, is now franchising and has plans to open a bagelry in Orlando. Company spokeswoman is being mum on any details for now.

Voodoo Bayou, the restaurant going in to the former Moonfish space on Restaurant Row, has been holding job fairs recently, so perhaps an opening is imminent? I’m sure they would have preferred to open before Mardi Gras; now I wonder if they have to wait for Lent to end.

Patina Restaurant Group is having a Sip, Savor and Stroll event among its brands at Disney Springs. Well, some of the brands – one is conspicuous in its absence. The SSS will be March 21 and begin either 5:30 or 8:30 p.m., with participants starting at the Edison then moving on to Enzo’s Hideaway and ending at Maria & Enzo’s. Not a big stroll considering those restaurants are just steps away from each other. I guess it would have been too much of a hike to stroll down to Morimoto Asia. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased here.

People in the restaurant business know how hard it is to schedule a vacation, especially if your restaurant has a Michelin star that you need to maintain. But chef/owner Michael Collantes of Soseki and Sushi Saint and his sommelier Benjamin Coutts (Michelin’s Florida Sommelier of the Year honoree of 2023) have a workaround – or a vacationaround. They will be the culinary experts aboard the Sea Cloud Spirit, sailing from Nice to Barcelona October 5 to 12. If you’ve had a hard time booking a seat at Soseki, perhaps you’ll have better luck reserving a cabin on the cruise. And just think – if the cruise goes all Gilligan’s Islandy at least you’ll eat and drink well. Details here.
