Newsy Nuggets: Mary’s taking her burgers to Kissimmee and other stuff

Hamburger Mary’s Orlando, the fun little restaurant that closed Sunday after announcing it would relocate, has been inextricably associated with Downtown Orlando (see logo above with a mermaid Mary resting on the Lake Eola fountain). But it’s extricating itself from that venue and moving to Kissimmee, of all places, according to the HBO Facebook page. No exact location or timeline yet, but I’m wondering how many loyal Mary’s fans will follow her south.

City Food Hall will take over the hurriedly vacated Hall on the Yard in Ivanhoe Village. It currently operates foods hall in Destin and West Palm Beach, with others in Gainesville and Athens also soon to come. I assume that’s Georgia and not Greece. Or maybe it’s DeLand, which is known as the Athens of Florida for some reason.

Saigon Night Market is this weekend, June 8 and 9, at Orlando’s Festival Park, 2911 E. Robinson St. (beware of road construction to the west). Subtitled Endless Summer Food & Music Festival, the event will feature 80 food vendors, contests and prizes, and an inflatable water slide for kids and adults. Could get messy. It’s from 3 to 10 p.m. If you go early, it’s the Saigon Late Afternoon Market.

Superica, the Texish-Mexish restaurant in Winter Park, is hosting a Chef Pop-up series over the summer. First up, June 13-19, is Brandon McGlamery of Prato and Luke’s, followed by Jam Hot Chicken’s Andrew Scala July 18-24, and James Petrakis, the Ravenous Pig, Aug. 22-28. (Ravenous Pig is the name of the restaurant and not a diss on Petrakis.) Superica will feature a signature dish from each chef during his respective week, with proceeds from the sale going to the chef’s favorite charity.

Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin at Walt Disney World Resort has announced the dates for its 15th Swan and Dolphin Food & Wine Classic. It will be Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15 and 16, from 5:30 to 9:30 each night – that’s a half hour sooner than in years past! The event features food from the resort’s 23 restaurants as well as wine, beer and cocktails. Tickets are on sale now. Menu options are different each night, so if you want to go both Friday and Saturday, you can save 15 percent on the total cost.
