Renovated in 2008, the dining room of the Japan pavilion now offers a serene setting inside and a gorgeous view of the World Showcase outside. Sushi is a forte here, although there also are kitchen foods. Most of the sushi chefs at Tokyo dining are women, so while the restaurant attempts to give a taste of Japanese culinary traditions, it does so by breaking down gender barriers. Very nice.

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

Among the hundreds of eating spots in Walt Disney Worlds culinary universe, only a few could be described as full-fledged steakhouses. Of those, Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disneys Yacht Club Resort is arguably the best. The meat is of high quality, and the portions are generous.
Did I say generous?
Let me tell you about the prime rib. My friend ordered the admirals cut, thinking that the captains cut wouldnt, well, cut it. This piece of meat was large enough to have its own Zip Code. I was surprised it took only one person to carry it to the table.
But not only was it a massive mound of meat, it was tender, too. The medium-rare cut was a juicy red and took no effort to cut. It was served au jus, along with straight horseradish and a horseradish cream sauce. Absolutely marvelous.
I also enjoyed the mixed grill, which featured smaller cuts of a filet, lamb chop and chicken breast. The steak was cooked exactly the way I ordered it and had a terrific charred outside with a warm red center. The lamb chop was dusted with rosemary and a bit of garlic, perfect accompaniments for the mild flavor of the lamb. And the chicken breast was thick and moist, if a little boring next to the other two.
As you enter the restaurant, you have the opportunity to say hello to your meal. Just to one side of the hostess stand is a large, glassed, refrigerated room where huge slabs of beef are aging. A sample tray with the various cuts of meat is also on display here.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Lake Buena Vista

$$$

The only full-service, sit-down restaurant inside Animal Kingdom, this is a true disappointment on all levels. The food is subpar and the service does not meet Disney’s usual standards. The restaurant is operated, as is Rainforest Cafe and T-Rex, by Landry Restaurants.OK, there was one food item I liked. It was a plate of green beans that had been coated in batter (the beans, not the plate) and fried and served with a sweet dipping sauce. A nice way to eat vegetables. But $6.99 for a stack of green beans? Are they kidding? No, they’re serious, otherwise they wouldn’t have charged $12.99 for the eensy dim sum basket that had a few pork pot stickers, pork and shrimp dumplings and two stale, doughy steamed buns with what looked to be about a teaspoon of barbecue inside. My guest chose the Shaoxing steak and shrimp entrée, which featured shrimp on skewers coated with something the menu described as tempura batter. Actually, it more closely resembled the substance that insulates a common corn dog at your basic county fair. The meat half of the duo was good, skirt steak saturated with soy marinade. The thin steak was wrapped around a timbale of jasmine rice. The plate also included a rather soggy medley of vegetables – snow peas, bell peppers, some mushrooms – but the whole thing didn’t come close to being worth the $22.99 fee.The theme song here could be “Yakkity Yak, Don’t Eat That!”
