Last Minute Gift Ideas for Food and Restaurant Lovers

Written By Scott Joseph On December 17, 2013

F2F-coverIf you’ve got people who love restaurants on your list of giftees, you’ve got some nifty choices this year. Several of the area’s top restaurateurs, chefs and cooks have put out some gorgeous books that would be appreciated by anyone who loves to cook or loves to eat.

I’ve previously told you about “The Ravenous Pig: Seasons of Florida” ($35) from James and Julie Petrakis, and “Field to Feast: Recipes Celebrating Florida Farmers, Chefs, and Artisans” ($28) from Pam Brandon, Katie Farmand and Heather McPherson.

Joining the list is a new tome from Brandon McGlamery of Luma on Park and Prato titled “9 Courses” ($35). It features recipes from the kitchens of Luma & Prato, peppered with cooking secrets and techniques, plus stories of Florida farmers and fishermen.

John Rivers of 4 Rivers Smokehouse has a new cookbook, too, called “The Southern Cowboy Cookbook” ($28.99).

And if you’ve got someone on your list who aspires to be a chef, he or she should read Norman Van Aken’s latest, “No Experience Necessary” ($24.95 but currently $18.81 at Barnes and Noble). The book tells the story of how the celebrity chef — whose Norman’s restaurant is one of Central Florida’s finest — got to where he is today. Van Aken has always been a gifted writer, besides a talented chef. I’ve just purchased my copy and will have a review soon.

All of these would make terrific gifts. But be sure to pick up a copy for yourself, too.
