Last Minute Valentine’s Day Ideas

 Ramirez Valentine

If you haven’t made your plans for dining out on Valentine’s Day this year, you may find yourself out of luck. And in the doghouse.

It isn’t entirely impossible to get a reservation at this late date, but the chances are getting slimmer the longer you wait. Check out the listings I’ve compiled for restaurants that are offering specials. Give them a call and ask if they’ve got anything — cancellations happen. Be flexible — you may have to settle for something very early or very late.

Also, consider dining on the day before Valentine’s Day. Yes, yes, I know it’s Friday the 13th. Try not to think about that. But you can tell your Valentine that you want to have a nice dinner out on Friday and then, for the big day itself, stay in and have a romantic dinner at home, just the two of you. And offer to cook the dinner yourself! Or even better, cook it together.

And you can sweeten it with some chocolates from our favorite chocolatier, David Ramirez. Don’t you just love those lip-smacking cherries jubilee chocolates in the photo? You know who else would love them? Your Valentine, that’s who. There’s a catch, though: These particular chocolates are available only at the David Ramirez Chocolates retail store on Central Florida Parkway. Worth the trip.

And Norman’s at the Ritz-Carlton has a suggestion for you: Give your sweetie a special dinner to be consumed at a later date. Specifically, a wine dinner featuring Opus One. The dinner is March 7, so it’s not too far off. And it is Norman’s and the exclusive Opus One wines. It’ll set you back $300 per person, but, hey, you’re the one who procrastinated.
