Bungalower is reporting that New York wiener wrangler Dogmatic is coming to Mills Park.
This will only be the second Dogmatic, which was founded by Central Florida resident and former Darden executive Brad Blum. The original Dogmatic opened several years ago in a small storefront off of Union Square in Manhattan. I visited the restaurant on one of my trips there shortly after it opened. I found it to be pleasant, very small, and the food was good, but not transcendant. I thought it was sort of like the hot dog equivalent of Magnolia Bakery’s cupcakes: people wait in line for hours for something that is ultimately just a cupcake.
I did not experience long lines at the Manhattan Dogmatic, which may explain why it’s taken this long to roll out another one. But Dogmatic’s allure, if it’s to have any, will likely be in the integrity of its products rather than the taste. Grass-fed beef, free-range chickens, pasture-raised lamb are some of the dog varieties you’ll find there. And the fries that are offered are air baked, not fried. There is no fryer on the property. In that aspect, Dogmatic is probably more comparable to Chipotle.
At a time when people are clamoring to find gluten-free food even though they have no medical condition that requires it, the integrity of a restaurant’s food should be pretty attractive.
