For a restaurant group with its headquarters in Orlando, and one with over 14 brands, Tavistock Restaurant Collection has a dearth of restaurants in its hometown. In fact, it has none.

That will change in January with the expected opening of Canvas, an original concept that the group is developing in collaboration with Atlanta-based Concentrics Restaurants (Luma on Park, Prato, Slate). Billed as a dinner-only restaurant and market, Canvas will be at the Laureate Park Village Center in Orlando’s Lake Nona community.

According to a press release, the waterfront restaurant will feature fresh Florida seafood (not from that particular waterfront) and a chef-driven menu. A chef has not yet been named to do the driving.

Canvas will have 278 seats with seating indoors and on a terrace overlooking the water. An adjacent market will serve breakfast and lunch items and will sell housewares, books and. “Together with Tavistock Development Company and Concentrics Restaurants, we are creating a one-of-a-kind environment in the region’s fastest growing community that we hope will quickly become a top dining destination in Orlando,” said Tavistock Restaurant Collection CEO John Bettin in a prepared statement.

Lake Noma has been begging for more dining options. The the growing Medical City and the relocation of the USTA’s American tennis headquarters, we should see a lot more restaurants announced.

And it wouldn’t be surprising to see more of them coming from Tavistock, seeing as how the parent company is Lake Nona’s developer.

Tavistock Restaurant Collection moved to Orlando just under two years ago from California, where it was known as Tavistock Restaurants and assoicated with the Freebirds chain. When that relationship ended, Tavistock moved the restaurant division to Orlando, renamed it, and focused on more upscale and fine dining brands.

Other Tavistock Restaurant Collection brands include AquaKnox, Atlantic Fish, Blackhawk Grille and ZED451.
