Bullet Point Buffet: Restaurant Week, Wine Dinners and More

Written By Scott Joseph On July 23, 2018

Restaurant Week Main Street

A cornucopia of information about the local food and wine scene.

  • Main Street Restaurant Week will be held Aug. 4 through 11, Saturday to Saturday. During that week, participating restaurants whose addresses fall within one of the city’s designated Main Street districts offer special menus or pricing. Prix fixe menus will be available for $5, $10, $20 and $30 depending on the type of restaurant and whether you dine for lunch or dinner. Currently, only four of the nine districts have restaurants signed up — only three, really, when you realize that Maxine’s on Shine is listed in both the Mills 50 and Thornton Park categories. Here’s link.
  • Pokéworks, a franchise operation that started in New York City in 2015, will open Pokéworks Orlando this fall, though technically it should be called Pokéworks Oviedo. You’ll be able to find it on West Mitchell Hammock Road. Hope they hurry and open before this Hawaiian style raw fish trend runs its course.

  • Valencia College is hosting its second annual Block Party, called Light Up Poinciana, Friday, July 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. The reason I mention it is that it offers a chance to tour the school’s culinary lab. Also, there will be food trucks.
  • Terralina Crafted Italian, the just-opened restaurant at Disney Springs, is starting a late-night happy hour schedule from 9 to 11 p.m., but only Sunday through Thursday. You’ll have to find another way to be happy on weekend late nights.
  • Wine Quest has announced the dates for its next event. If you’re thinking that Wine Quest just passed, you’re right — it was in June. The recent announcement is for the 2019 tasting. May 17 and 18. For those of you who like to plan ahead.
  • If you need some food and wine sooner than 2019, Norman’s at the Ritz-Carlton is hosting a Paul Hobbs Wine Dinner on Sat., Aug. 11. Call 407-393-4333 for details.
  • The area’s other Norman-y restaurant, 1921 by Norman Van Aken, will recreate the dinner it cooked at New York’s James Beard House last year on Aug. 24 to commemorate the Mount Dora restaurant’s second anniversary. Menu and ticket links here.
  • Congratulations to Scott Pagano, winner of last week’s drawing for a restaurant gift card. He wins $50 to Big Fin Seafood Kitchen. Another drawing this Friday. If you get my e-letter, you’re entered to win. If not, text SJO to 66866 and sign up.
