Brunch at Two Chefs Seafood Oyster Bar

I’m heading to New Orleans next week, so to get primed I stopped in recently to try out the new brunch menu at Two Chefs Seafood Oyster Bar in the North Quarter.

Two Chefs Brunch deviled eggs

I’ve become inured to the siren call of deviled eggs. I love them, but I’m almost always disappointed when I order them in restaurants. But the Lobster Deviled Eggs at 2CSOB. Besides the sweet lobster meat, the eggs were topped with chewy chunks of bacon and pickled shallots. Each one a delectable treat. And there were four halves instead of the mathematically illogical three that most restaurants serve. I appreciated that.

There were, however, only three of the Fried Oyster BLT (pictured at top), which were one (maybe two if you’re delicate) bite bits of wonderful of a plump, cornmealed oyster on top of a toasted crostini with a bit of shaved lettuce and some wonderful bacon jam.

Two Chefs Brunch Duck Hash

I chose the Duck Confit Potato Hash for my main. There was a good portion of the juicy duck meat blended with the chunks of fried potatoes. The hash also was laced with crunchy kernels of fresh corn, and it was topped with a sunny side up egg with chive confetti. In truth, the hash could have used a little salt, but I settled for a couple of dashes of Crystal hot sauce instead.

 Two Chefs Brunch shrimp grits

My companion had the Grilled Shrimp & Cheddar Grits, which also included some grilled andouille sausage. The skewered shrimp were firm and perfectly cooked, and the grits, surrounded by a moat of onion jus, were some of the best I’ve had lately.

Two Chefs Brunch bread pudding

For dessert, we shared the elaborately produced banana bread pudding, hot out of the oven and completed with a slice of banana with a torched brulee-like sugary topping. I will do my best, but I doubt I’ll find a better bread pudding in New Orleans.

I didn’t partake, but there is a complex bloody mary bar set up in the vestibule between the main dining area, which overlooks the kitchen, and the bar, which has lots of extra seating.

Service was affable and prompt. I unfortunately chose a Sunday that did not have live music, but I’m told there is some occasionally.

Two Chefs Seafood Oyster Bar is at 743 N. Magnolia Ave., Orlando. It serves brunch on Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The phone number is 407-270-4740.
