NEW YORK — This is it. The chefs are in the kitchen, they’ve put on their clean shirts and they’re putting the hors d’oeuvres on silver trays so the Beard House serving staff can pass them among the guests. There is lots of activity, but the kitchen is eerily quiet. It would seem that the seriousness of the occasion is setting in. The first of the guests are expected to begin arriving soon.
A few moments ago the chefs met with the serving staff in the dining area to go over the menu.
