New Barbecue and Brewery will Take Over Holy Smoke Space

Written By Scott Joseph On March 25, 2014

Holy SmokeThe space formerly known as Holy Smoke Bbq has come to a fork in the road. Rather, make that the other way around.

The folks behind Fork in the Road food truck have acquired the rather large restaurant and will turn part of it into a regional barbecue restaurant and establish a brewery in another part. The space, a former Eckerd Drugs store in a Winn-Dixie plaza on Curry Ford Road, has just under 10,000 square feet between the two spaces.

Chef and owner Bryce Balluff says the working name for the new restaurant is Southern Moon Smokehouse and Brewery, though he says there may be a conflict with another entitiy with a similar name. He plans to open the smokehouse part of the business by the end of April. He’s aiming for mid July for the brewery, although he expects the brewery to be putting out product before that and says that he’ll probably give some away to guests in the barbecue restaurant.

Balluff says he has hired Adam Steele, a Denver brewmaster, to do the brewing. Along with beers, the business will brew its own sodas and make its own bitters. “We’re not bringing anything in,” Balluff said. T.J. Briante of Stonewood Grill & Tavern in Lake Mary will be the pitmaster.

The opening of the smokehouse will not signal the end of the food truck. Balluff said he and his crew visit nine cities every month for food truck events and he intends to keep that schedule. He added that his focus will likely be on more corporate events than social.

Southern Moon Smokehouse and Brewery will be at 3000 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, at the corner of Crystal Lake Drive.
