Midsummer Feast to Celebrate the Solstice at Raglan Road

Written By Scott Joseph On June 18, 2012

RR Midsummer Dinner Main Course PigYou’re probably sitting around wondering how you’re going to celebrate the summer solstice this Wednesday, June 20, bemoaning that you haven’t been invited to any Midsummer Day festivities. Well, now you have been. Come celebrate with me and a lot of good Irish food and drink.

Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant will hold a traditional Irish celebration of the solstice with a Midsummer Feast created by chef Kevin Dundon at the Downtown Disney hotspot. Dundon flew in from Ireland espeically for the event.

The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. with a reception featuring a special Summer Solstice cocktail created specifically for the event. The four-course dinner will feature craft beer pairings, including Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, Jai Alai India Pale Ale and Bunratty Mead. Here’s a look at the food Dundon has planned:

  • An elegant Picnic Basket of Assorted Pates and Homemade Jams including smoked salmon mousse and brandied chicken liver pate.
  • A second-course Champagne Splashed Raspberry Sorbet.
  • An entrée of Roast Stuffed Suckling Pig, Braised Vegetables, Raisin and Cider Glaze and Potato Roasties.
  • Dessert of Pimms Knickerbocker Glory, a creamy, light treat featuring Pimms liqueur.

I’m thinking that sometime during the first course, the actual solstice will occur: 7:09 p.m. precisely. Expect lots of music and dancing featuring Raglan Road’s house band, Creel, and the resident entertainers performing Irish step dancing.

Cost of the dinner is $90 per person plus tax and gratuity. To book your reservation, call 407-938-0300 or the Disney reservation line at 407-939-3463. Or you can visit raglanroad.com. Raglan Road is on Downtown Disney’s Pleasure Island at 1640 E. Buena Vista Drive, Lake Buena Vista.
