Now under the direction of Dominique Filoni, this Grand Floridian upscaler has better food than ever. Erich Herbitshek’s desserts alone are worth the drive.

The newest full-service restaurant inside Magic Kingdom is themed on the Jungle River Cruise, which is known for its punacious river pilots. You can expect a lot of corn from the waiters here, too. Try the fish collar and shu mai.

Let’s just ignore the irony of a place with Tavern in its name that does not serve alcohol (following the annoyingly out of date dictate of Walt Disney that the Magic Kingdom not serve even beer and wine). There are few choices inside the Magic Kingdom for full-service dining. This is one, but just like the others, the food is rather mundane and doesn’t rise much above utilitarian. Here, the fare is served family-style on platters for you to dish out yourself.

I wonder how many people try to recreate the scene from Lady and the Tramp where the two dogs meat in the middle of a strand of spaghetti for a kiss. That scene from the classic animated Disney movie was the inspiration for this full-service restaurant. How much nicer it would be if the inspiration had been good food.
