La Hacienda is one of the newest restaurant at Epcot’s World Showcase. It sits in front of the Mexico pavilion and juts out over the lagoon, which gives it a unique vantage point for the nightly Illuminatons show. The food is not authentic, but it’s very good. Be sure to try the chiles toreados y chorizitos, a bowl of bright green peppers and little fat chorizo pork links, sort of a Mexican version of Vienna sausages, all charred and grilled; and one of the mixed grill platters, which have enough for two to share. There’s a wonderful dessert at meal’s end, a tamal de dulce. It’s an actual corn masa tamale only sweet, and filled with guava then topped with strawberry coulis. Delicious.

The menu is more extensive than it really needs to be but distinguishes itself from other local Mexican restaurants by being more authentically Mex with less Tex.

Good, authentic Mexican food, clean bright dining area, friendly people. What else do you need?

The menu is extensive – larger than it really needs to be – and does have some genuine Mexican dishes, though it is also chile-peppered with Tex-Mex and other Americanized versions. The food is good and is presented in startlingly large portions.

This is one of my favorite authentic Mexican restaurants in the area. Nothing fancy — why should it be? — just good, food.

A new food hall in downtown Avalon Park with myriad food vendors, including Brazas, NOLA, Cheese to Share, Pico de Gallo and Rosso Specialty Coffee. Joining them are Bowigens Beer Company; BBQ50 with conventional ‘cue; KBBQ, from the originators of the Korean BBQ Taco Box, one of Orlando’s original food trucks; Sip ’N Roll ice cream; and Lemon Shark Poke.

It’s an assemblage restaurant –choose a platform, a protein and toppings. But the twist is that it features Mexican and Mediterranean options, so you can make all the wrong choices in two different cuisines.

Mi Tomatina, the paella place in Winter Park’s Hannibal Square, is now Pepe’s Cantina. While Spanish may still be spoken here, the dialect is more Mexican than Catalan. And there’s a distinct Texas accent, as well.

Pepe’s Facebook page (the website is still “under construction) states that chef Jose Baranenko’s menu “puts a new twist on traditional Mexican cuisine.” Inasmuch as fajitas and nachos — and burgers, for that matter — are Mexican it’s only because they migrated from the country to the north.

But I’ll not quibble about authenticity. I had a pleasant visit to Pepe’s recently, and if the cantina vibe isn’t quite in sync with such neighbors as Chez Vincent, Mynt and Armando’s — Pepe’s Facebook page is promoting an event called Cinco de Drinko — it isn’t any more out of place than, say, Dexter’s down the block.

From the owners of Osprey Tavern and Seito Sushi in Baldwin Park, this Citrus replacement makes ample use of the patio space, but the inside is just as nice. Stick with the basic Mexican offerings.

An Orlando outpost for a multi-location New York City restaurant, this is a rather mundane place with average Mexican food.
