Why Do We Go To Restaurants?

My friend Clark Wolf, the well-respected restaurant consultant, wrote an article for SFGate titled On the Purpose of Going to Restaurants. In it he discusses the assertion by a highly regarded chef that we go to restaurants for one of two reasons: to refuel or to be challenged. Clark thinks there are other reasons; so do I.
