Wazzabi Sushi is Closed

Written By Scott Joseph On June 22, 2013

It appears that Wazzabi Sushi, the Winter Park Japanese restaurant, has closed. A call to the restaurant, on Gay Road across from Winter Park Village, was met with a recording saying the number has been disconnected.

In October, Wazzabi’s owner, Quoc Trong Tran, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he alledgedly shot at two customers who had complained about their food and left the restaurant without paying. It’s not known if the closing is a result of that incident, but it certainly couldn’t have had a positive impact on the business.

Wazzabi opened in 2006 to mostly good reviews. It featured an upscale decor that was immediately popular with a younger clientele. Besides sushi and kitchen foods, Wazzabi offered teppanyaki grill service in a glass-walled room.

Thanks to reader Bob Atchison for the tip about the closing.{jcomments on}
