OpenTable, the restaurant reservation company, has released its 2013 Diners’ Choice Awards for the Top 100 Best Restaurants in America. The list is complied by OpenTable from analyzing reviews submitted by registered diners — 5 million reviews, according to the company.
The ranking, according to an OpenTable blog article, “are generated from more than 5 million restaurant reviews collected from verified OpenTable diners between November 14, 2012, and November 15, 2013. All restaurants with a minimum number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration. Qualifying restaurants were then sorted according to a score calculated from each restaurant’s average rating in the “overall” category along with that restaurant’s rating relative to others in the same metropolitan area and the average number of restaurants reviewed by diners who reviewed that restaurant.”
Of course, only the restaurants that use the OpenTable system are included, but that’s over 19,000 restaurants. OpenTable has a good reputation and is well liked by most restaurants that use it, but it requires a fee that some restaurants don’t feel the need to pay. So some restaurants you might expect to see on the list may be missing for that reason.
Let me save you some search time in at least one regard. Only one Florida restaurant, NAOE in Miami, made the list.
How many of the Top 100 have you been to? Do you use OpenTable to make reservations, and do you follow up with reviews of the restaurants you dine in? Let us know in the comments below.
