First Watch Summer Menu Specials

FWsummer cooler

Summer doesn’t officially begin until next week, but it’s already summer-hot, so we may as well say it’s here.

Which is just fine because First Watch’s summer menu specials are also available now. And as I do every three months, I headed to First Watch to have a sample, humming a little Vivaldi along the way.

I started by sipping the Watermelon Wake-up, a cool and refreshing drink that also had pineapple and lime juice and a fragrant sprig of mint.

Grato of Winter Park

Grato ext

(Sung to the tune of “Liza with a Z”)

It’s Grato with a G not Prato with a P ‘cause Prato with a P goes prah not grah…

There’s bound to be confusion for people strolling along Park Avenue starting at Aloma Avenue and heading north past Morse Boulevard. “Didn’t we just see this restaurant a few blocks ago?” Besides the similar name, both are Italian. But comparability must end there.

Luma on Park landlord responds to lawsuit

luma ext

The law firm representing the building owner and landlord at 290 S. Park Ave., Winter Park, previously the address of Luma on Park, released a statement in response to a lawsuit the popular restaurant filed last month against the landlord.

As detailed in an article published last week, Luma on Park’s owners filed the suit against William T. Battaglia and Foundry Commercial alleging, “…Battaglia’s improper attempt to use Luma…as [an] unsuspecting pawn in his diabolical plan to inflict financial pain and suffering upon his family members, with whom he is tied through a multitude of family companies and trusts…”

Newsy Nuggets: Swan and Dolphin Classic dates announced, and other stuff

SwanSpring concourse

The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin has announced the dates for the return of its Food & Wine Classic. The popular event will run Friday and Saturday, Oct. 29 and 30, along the waterfront and causeway connecting the two hotels. As in the past, the event will feature food samples from the resort’s many restaurants, including the estimable Shula’s Steak House, Todd English’s bluezoo and Kimonos sushi bar, and wine, beers and spirits as well.

Tickets are on sale now at FoodandWineClassic.com and include overnight packages. However, unlike last fall’s event, participation will not be exclusive to hotel guests. Guest favorite themed areas, including the Beer Garden, Bubble Lounge (with sparkling wines), China Town, and the Pig & the Poke, will be back, though it’s unclear if the seminars that were offered in previous years will return.

Newsy Nuggets: The “who are you calling chicken?” edition

4 Rivers Sandwich

Clearly, we’re going to need more chickens.

Earlier this week I told you about Chicken Guy! opening late summer in Winter Park. Previously, it was announced that Arkansas-based Slim Chickens is eyeing Central Florida, as are Raising Cane’s and Cowboy Chicken. And Bojangles is returning.

Now, we learn that Jam Hot Chicken, which has been operating as a popup, will plop down in Hannibal Square in a walk-up window operation previously occupied by Sausage Shack of Winter Park (sausages are so last year).
