Milkhouse

Milkhouse ext

Milkhouse certainly has a splashy presence. Located, as the name clues, in the Milk District, the area of town surrounding the T.G. Lee Dairy facility at Bumby and Robinson Avenues, its name is spelled out in a blaze of marquee-like light bulbs as though announcing the production of a lactose-tolerant Broadway musical.

Brother Jimmy’s

BroJimmy int

I was standing outside Brother Jimmy’s earlier this week and as a group went in ahead of me, one of them said, “I am really excited about this.”

Mind you, this was the Brother Jimmy’s in New York’s Murray Hill neighborhood, not a place exactly teeming with barbecue restaurants. I had already visited the Brother Jimmy’s in the Marketplace at Dr. Phillips and figured I should check out a New York location since the concept began there. This is the place with the slogan “Put some south in yo’ mouth.” There are indications that Manhattan had multiple Brothers Jimmy’s – the first was on the Upper East Side and another was on Eighth Avenue, but it appears that only the one on Lexington Avenue still exists.

In fact, when another Brother Jimmy’s opens at Icon Park, Orlando will have twice as many as Manhattan. Is that something to get really excited about?

Mexican restaurants, Hangry Bison update, Mango’s re-lives and a peachy drink.

Cantrina

Cork & Fork, the Belle Isle restaurant in the strip at Conway Road and Hoffner Avenue, will become an El Potro Mexican Restaurant, the chainlet’s fourth. EP’s website says that it will happen in fall 2021. This seems like a good time to mention that winter begins Dec. 21.

Speaking of Mexican restaurants, Cantina Catrina, a South Florida restaurant, plans to open at Florida Mall in winter 2021, according to the mall’s website. I don’t know if that means they will open in the 10 days following Dec. 21 or if the winter target buys them time until spring (March 22). The only existing Cantina Catrina – can we just call it Cantrina? – is at Dadeland Mall, so apparently the owners like to go where the shoppers are. But the Florida Mall location, rendering at top, at least will not be in the food court. Excuse me – dining pavilion. It will be at the entrance and will offer indoor and outdoor dining.

Give the gift of artistic meats with a charcuterie class at Tornatore’s

Charcut board

If you have a foodies on your gift list who are difficult to buy for, consider giving cured meats, cheeses, nuts and fruits, but in a really artistic – and fun – way. Give them a Charcuterie Class by Tornatore’s.

Sure, you can give them a bunch of meats and such, but you know what they say: Give some foodies a charcuterie board and they’ll nosh for a day; teach them how to put one together and…well, they’ll still eat for a day but they’ll know how to assemble a gorgeous array that will dazzle their party guests.
