The little building at 745 Bennett Road has been home to a number of food and beverage businesses over the years. It was the original location of Redlight Redlight before that popular beer bar moved to Corrine Drive. I believe there was a barbecue restaurant at one point, and in the 1990s it was a gay bar.

More recently it served as the first location for the Smiling Bison, which opened a second location in Sanford in 2015 then last year made that its only location by leaving Bennett Road.

Tacos el Rancho: Part of Central Florida’s Taco Takeover

The tacofication of Central Florida continues.

No food trend has hold quite as strongly as tacos. Not that tacos are new. The taco as its known from its roots predates the arrival to Mexico of Spaniards, who apparently were able to just walk in because there was no wall to keep them out. And some of those early tacos were just as creative in their fillings as some of our tonier craft tacomongers, with such things as whole, small fish in a tortilla wrapper.

Paul Bocuse is Dead at 91

Paul Bocuse, one of the most celebrated chefs in the world, named Chef of the Century in 2011 by the Culinary Institute of America, and one of the trio of famous cooks who opened Les Chefs de France at Epcot, died Saturday, Jan. 20 in France. He would have turned 92 on Feb. 11.

June Dates Announced for Trip to France

If you missed out on the April dates for our trip to France, take heart: New dates have been added for June.

We’ll be traveling to Paris and Lyon June 23 through 30. Chef Kevin Fonzo and I will lead the tour, which is being curated by Art in Voyage — Beyond Travel. We have a lot planned — even if you’re a frequent visitor to France, you’ll love some of the “insider” things we have planned, including an exclusive dinner at Jules Verne in the Eiffel Tower, a day-trip to Champagne country, and a cooking class using the ingredients gathered from a local market. In Lyon, we’ll pay our respects to Paul Bocuse by visiting his famous restaurant.
