PR’s Taco Palace to Open in College Park

Written By Scott Joseph On January 6, 2014

Bungalower and College Park Community Paper are reporting that PR’s Taco Palace of Winter Park will take over the College Park space recently vacated by Taste. According to CPCP, owner Perry Inman is looking for a February or March opening, following minor renovations.

This is not the first second location for the Tex-Mexerie. It previously had a restaurant at the corner of Kirkman and Conroy Roads that is now closed.

The website also quotes Inman as saying that he will keep the Winter Park location open, but I’m wondering if there might be an unspoken “for now.” In an article about the impact of Sun Rail on local businesses in the Orlando Sentinel last month, Dan Tracy quoted Inman as saying that his business has already dropped 20 percent, mainly because the short road that ran along the tracks next to his restaurant has been closed down (and indeed has been sodded over) to remove a potential safety issue. Many of PR’s patron used the street for parking.

So one wonders if the plan might not be to get another location up and running and then jump the track at the Winter Park location.

In May of 2011, Inman announced plans to open a barbecue restaurant at the corner of Morse Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue in Winter Park. It was to be called Big Pig and open in June of that year. Never happened. Update: Big Pig opened but only for a few days. That site is where John Rivers will open The Coop later this year.
