Newsy Nuggets: Orlando United for Maui Strong, wine class and dinner, and City Pub on permanent vacation

Written By Scott Joseph On August 28, 2023

Ricky Ly of the Tasty Chomps website has put together a fundraiser called Orlando United for Maui Strong as a response to the Hawaii wildfires. It features an online virtual auction, including, not surprisingly, several culinary items.

Some of the auction items include: Lunch with UCF football player and Hawaii native Lakahi Pauole and Ly at 808, the Hawaiian restaurant in Thornton Park; an omakase dinner for two at Morimoto Asia; dinner for two at Michelin starred Soseki; sama sama dinner at Kaya; and lunch the Orlando Sentinel’s Amy Drew. See all the auction items here, but hurry – bidding ends at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29.

Saturday, September 16, Winedos, the Central Florida based wine-delivery company that puts an emphasis on knowledge, will host a wine class and three-course dinner prepared by popular chef Kevin Fonzo at The House Kitchen in College Park. The class and tasting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the dinner immediately after. Cost is $180 or $230 for seating at the winemaker’s table. Sommelier and wine educator Carolina Marin will conduct her five-sense wine education class of five wines along with Lidia Lecea of Bodegas Lecea (Rioja Alta). Click here to purchase tickets.

City Pub, the restaurant that replaced North Quarter Tavern at the beginning of 2019 and has been closed since June, supposedly taking the summer off, will not be returning come September, a development that surprised no one. City Pub’s attached Bitters & Bottles cocktail lounge is also gone.
