Join Us For Supper Club at the New and Improved Tony Roma’s

For some time now, I’ve been telling people about the new and improved Tony Roma’s Orlando. Then I figured, why not just show them? So I’ve partnered with the Tony Roman’s to put together an evening of good food and drink. We’ll even spice things up by starting with a hands-on activity making Chef Bob’s Spice Rub — and you’ll get to take your concoction home with you.

Cost of the evening is $82 plus tax — $86.92 — which includes gratuity. It’s a special offer just for you.

Take a look at the menu and reserve your spot today.

A Progressive Meal with a Moderate Congresswoman

Murphy dinner cupcakes

Earlier in the summer I received an intriguing invitation from an assistant to U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy: “Congresswoman Murphy would like to offer an invitation for you to tour downtown Sanford’s exciting restaurants,” the note read. “She would be honored if you would join her on this food tour.” The honor would be mine, I replied, and we set up a date.

Urbain 40

I took the occasion of Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining Month to revisit Urbain 40, which recently changed chefs. I needn’t have waited because I ended up setting the MagDinMo menu aside and ordering from the regular menu anyway.

Urbain 40 opened in late 2015 at the Dellagio plaza on

Teak Neighborhood Grill

Teak interior

You’d be hard pressed to find any evidence that RanGetsu once occupied the space in Maitland that Teak Neighborhood Grill now calls home. Or second home, as it were — the MetroWest mainstay recently opened a second restaurant in the Village of Lake Lily apartments building.

Teak is known for its burgers, with 17 or so on the menu. (There’s supposedly a super-secret password-only burger menu, too, but I find the very notion annoying.)

And there’s good reason that burgers are the forte here: They’re very good quality, creatively accoutered, impressively large and just generally pretty damn good. And with most of them priced at $12 or $13, they’re also a terrific food value.

Tenji Hibachi Express & Sushi

Tenji exterior

Japanese food has come to the Hoffner/Belle Isle neighborhood in the form of Tenji Hibachi Express & Sushi, The Express part should convey that this is not a full service restaurant but rather a fast-casual concept. You should also take it as an indicator that the food is modest.

Tenji occupies a sizable storefront facing Conway Road just a couple of doors down from the first Tacos el Rancho.

The menu is also ambitious, with numerous noodle and teriyaki options, nigirzushi and specialty sushi rolls, and of course hibachi entrees, though they’re cooked for you in the back rather than you doing it at your table.

Visit Orlando Extending Magical Dining Month Through Oct. 12

Magical dining month logo

Visit Orlando is extending the dates for its annual restaurant promotion, Magical Dining Month, to October 12. The reason, of course, is the loss of momentum for the popular event that occurred as people prepared for the possible impact of the hurricane earlier in the month and the cleanup and loss of power and supplies that prevented an immediate return to business as normal.

In case you missed it, here’s a tutorial on how to get the most out of Magical Dining Month.
