Simon and Susan Veness have been covering Central Florida and its tourist attractions for a long time. (Susan is the author of three editions of The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World and other titles.) Now they’ve published a new book, 111 Places in Orlando The You Must Not Miss.
The book, which features photographs by Kayla L. Smith, has some obvious attractions – Morse Museum, Harry P. Leu Gardens – and some obscure ones – happy painter Bob Ross’ grave and Tank America, where you can drive around in armored vehicles.
And they’ve also included a compendium of local restaurants, like Yellow Dog Eats, “the best doggone sandwich you’ll ever taste”; Nikki’s Place, “Parramore’s first family of soul (food)”; and Chef’s Table at the Edgewater Hotel, “from bass fishing to fine dining.” Others getting a mention include Melao Bakery, Mather’s Social Gathering and Plant Street Market.
As with all their books, it’s a fun read and something you’ll want to share with others.
The Venesses will have a launch of the new book on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Downtown Visitor Center (not on the list) from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Stop by, meet the authors, and get a signed copy for yourself and anyone else who enjoys finding new treasures in Central Florida.
