Kellogg is Touting the Cost-Effectiveness of Eating a Bowl of Cereal

Written By Administrator On November 18, 2008

Good lord, we are in a recession. I just received a press release pushing cereal as a way to save money!

A bowl of Kellogg’s(R) cereal is less than 50 cents per serving, including milk(1). Eating a cereal breakfast not only provides the critical nutrients to start the day, it tastes great too. By eating a cereal and milk breakfast with a serving of fruit for one month, a family of four can save hundreds of dollars. A simple price comparison shows that a quick-serve breakfast sandwich can cost around $2.48(2) and a bagel and coffee or juice from a fast-casual restaurant can cost $3.37(3). Spending $2 rather than $10, plus serving a breakfast everyone loves, is the value families are looking for.

I just know we’re going to start seeing Rice Krispie Treats on dessert menus soon. Except the restaurants will mark them up to $8 each.
