Exclusive Taste of the Nation Discount for SJO Readers

Update: Discount deadline extended through Friday, July 8, 2011.

The winners of the two pairs of tickets to Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation have been drawn. They are: Stephen Caggiano and Laine Richardson. If that’s not you, here’s a special deal.

Taste of the Nation is offering an exclusive discount to readers of the flog: 15% off the price of VIP tickets. The regular cost is $150, so with the special SJO code, you’ll get them for (clicking sound of calculator keys) $135 per person. That’s just $35 over the general admission price of $100 per person and it gets you early entry — 6 instead of 6:45 p.m. — and a special seating area. The extra $35 is worth just to get in early and be the first to sample the foods of the evening. (See below for the discount code.)

And good food, too. Some of the restaurants signed up to be there include:

BB King’s Blues Club Orlando
Bahama Breeze
Buena Vista Palace Hotel & Spa
Cafe Tu Tu Tango
The Capital Grille
City Fire American Oven & Bar
Crave
Cuisinier’s Catered Cuisine & Events
Cusano’s Bakery
Dine with Shamu by SeaWorld Orlando
Emeril’s Tchoup Chop
Empress Sissi
FreshPoint
JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes
K Restaurant & Wine Bar
Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts
LongHorn Steakhouse
Nespresso Coffee
Nestle Professional
Nestle Water | San Pellegrino & Acqua Panna
Olive Garden
Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate
Orlando World Center Marriott
The Ravenous Pig
Red Wing Restaurant
Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld
Rosen Shingle Creek Resort: A Land Remembered
Rosen Shingle Creek Resort: Cala Bella Italian Bistro
Royal Plaza
Sanaa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
Technical Education Center, Osceola County
Three2OH Ice Cream
Uno Chicago Grill
The Vineyard Wine Company
Whole Foods Market
Windermere Country Club

If you can’t get your money’s worth from that list, there’s something terribly wrong.

But getting your money’s worth isn’t the most important thing of the evening. At Taste of the Nation, 100% of ticket sales goes to the cause of ending childhood hunger in Central Florida. And if you don’t think hunger is an issue in these parts, check out this article for a link to a recent 60 Minutes edition that chronicled homeless kids in Central Florida.

To get the special discount of 15% off the cost of VIP tickets, follow this link to the Taste of the Nation website and use the code SCOTTDEAL at checkout. This offer is good today through July 6 8 — after that the price will go back to $150.

Taste of the Nation is Saturday, August 6, 2011, at the Marriott World Center, 8701 World Center Drive, Orlando. Doors open at 6 p.m. for VIP ticket holders and 6:45 for general admission. You have until 10 p.m. to nibble and sip your way through the various restaurants.

And by the way, take another look at the list of participating restaurants, and in the next weeks as you decide where to dine, consider one of them. And be sure to tell them that you’re there because of their support of Taste of the Nation. It’ll mean a lot to them.
