Popped into Tutto Caffè one recent morning for liquid and solid fuel.

Tutto Caffè is an unassuming little coffeeshop in downtown Baldwin Park. It’s set up as a sort of gathering space to sit and sip, read or work, perhaps at the stone-topped counter in the center of the room.

I was taking a day off from work and was wandering the neighborhood with my dog. I tied Toby to one of the outside tables and went inside to order, all the while keeping an eye on Tobe, who’s still very much a puppy and not used to being tied up outside of strange places.

I expected to find Avocado Toast on the menu at Café Linger, a new coffeeshop with food in College Park. I’m pretty sure a coffeehouse can’t pass city inspection without Avocado Toast on its menu. I expected to find a Croissant Egg Sandwich, too, and I wasn’t even surprised by the Smoked Salmon & Avocado Tartare.

But Spaeztle? That I didn’t expect. Or Cod Fritters. And even Steak Frites, considering the place closes most days at 7 p.m.

But there they were, and there I was, so I ordered the Spaeztle (which for the record is spelled Spätzle on the menu). I had just returned from, among other places, Germany and was feeling bad that I hadn’t had any of the traditional egg noodles the entire trip.

Café Linger tosses its Spaeztle, which were uniform enough for me to wonder at first it they weren’t actually bucatini (they weren’t), with cream and mushrooms and tops it with frizzled fried leeks. The sauce was creamy and the mushrooms delightfully chewy. The leeks added a nice bit of crunch.

But it still seemed an odd thing for a coffeehouse menu.

I told you recently about Winter Park Distilling Company and their beautiful new digs in a refurbished former auto body shop. One of their neighbors is a cool little shop called Foxtail Coffee.

It has a distinctly Northwestern United States vibe, with lots of brick and wood and hanging block-and-tackle pulleys, a nod, I suppose, to the previous tenant.

Foxtail is serious about its coffee, right down to its onsite roasting room, and promises to source from only fair-trade coffee dealers.

I found a cute little sandwich shop recently. Well, the shop was little but the sandwich was not.

It’s called the Sleeping Moon Cafe, not to be confused with Lazy Moon, the pizza place due to reopen on University Boulevard in the next few months. Sleeping Moon is about a half mile north of University Boulevard at the corner of Semoran Boulevard and Aloma Avenue. It’s in a sort of repurposed shopping mall that now features some healthcare types, and it’s around the corner on the side that faces Aloma, so you have to be looking for it to see it.

It’s the beginning of Orlando’s first Eat Local Week, so I’ve stopped by one of the participating restaurants to try their special menu featuring items from local purveyors.

Maybe restaurant is a bit of a stretch in the case of Austin’s Coffee & Film. It is a tie-dyed in the wool stereotypical coffeehouse, complete with underground music playing not very far in the background, rustic, colorfully painted tables and chairs and the requisite dilapidated sofas, and — most appropriately for our purposes today — walls filled with works by local artists.

I’m availing myself of Austin’s free wi-fi while I wait for my local meal. Im already sipping my “small” cup of coffee, which is included with the prix fixe menu. The not-so-small cup is charmingly chipped and filled with a darkly flavored brew, just as I like it.
