Call for Xmas Dining, and is this Orlando’s Best New Restaurant?

Who’s Open Christmas Day?
Santa has his list and I have mine. I’m not particularly concerned with naughty or nice in this case, though nice is appreciated. I’m just looking to present a comprehensive guide to restaurants that will be open on Christmas Day.
Restaurateurs, if you’ll be serving on Dec. 25, send me the details. Include as much information as you can — menu, prices, hours, how to make a reservation — and I’ll pass it along to the folks who will be dining out that day.
Send to me at this link. And if you want to include any Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve events (special menus only, not “regular business”) you can use that link, too.
And for those of you who are looking for Christmas dining, I’ll be updating the list as the information comes in at the Holiday Dining link.

Urbain 40

Urbain 40 Interior

Orlando has a new contender for best new restaurant, and the list of Central Florida chefs vying for national recognition and awards is almost certainly to add another name.

The restaurant is Urbain 40, a chic and classy brasserie that opened last month at Dellagio Plaza in the Restaurant Row district, and the chef is Jean-Stephane Poinard, a French native who of late has been holding forth at St. Augustine’s Bistro de Leon.

Smiling Bison Sanford

Smiling Bison Sanford interior

I popped into Sanford for dinner the other evening.

That’s not quite true. One doesn’t just “pop” into Sanford. For most of Greater Central Florida, visiting Sanford requires determined planning, especially the downtown historic district, several miles off of Interstate 4.

But with apologies to the businesses in an around the city’s mall, and despite the naming of that facility as Seminole Towne Center, the preponderance of restaurants, such as a preponderance exists, is in the historic downtown (not downtowne).

What will be familiar to the already loyal Bisonians is the food, which has always been creative, full of integrity, and with a promise of brilliance at times.

New Moon to Start Construction Soon.

Euro Living space

The owners of Lazy Moon Pizza, the popular cheap-eats hangout near UCF, plan to start construction this week on a second location in the Mills 50 district near downtown Orlando. “We’re looking to expand our footprint,” said Tim Brown, Lazy Moon’s co-owner. “We’re going to try to replicate what we have on the east side.”

Canvas Will Open in Lake Nona in January

Canvas Dining Room

For a restaurant group with its headquarters in Orlando, and one with over 14 brands, Tavistock Restaurant Collection has a dearth of restaurants in its hometown. In fact, it has none.

That will change in January with the expected opening of Canvas, an original concept that the group is developing in collaboration with Atlanta-based Concentrics Restaurants (Luma on Park, Prato, Slate). Billed as a dinner-only restaurant and market, Canvas will be at the Laureate Park Village Center in Orlando’s Lake Nona community.
