Talk about timing.
Just last week I reviewed Cafe Madrid, and I made special note that the restaurant had been there for 28 years.
It has closed.
According to a leasing agent, whose phone number is listed on a sign in the window indicating the space is for rent, the closing was both sudden and unexpected. He said that the owners, who also operate a Spanish grocery nearby in the same strip mall, “were chasing two rabbits. And when you chase two rabbits, you’re going to lose one.”
The restaurant, the man said, still had food in it.
The space is being considered by the owner of a New York style pizzeria with a couple of locations already in Central Florida.
Whoever moves in, I wish them a long and prosperous stay.
