Bosphorous Expanding on Park Avenue

Written By Scott Joseph On November 25, 2013

Bosphorous, the popular Turkish restaurant on Winter Park’s Park Avenue, is planning an expansion that will include taking over the retail shop next door and adding dining space on the second floor.

Owner Doved Sexter says the plans include taking over the eyeglass store on the corner and removing the 150-year-old wall between that space and the existing restaurant, as well as a wall that currently separates the bar from the dining room. The design will remove the retail space’s windows and replace them with floor to ceiling glass doors that can be opened to facilitate outdoor dining. John McCann, who also designed the nearby Cocina 214, is handling the architectural designs.

Sexter says he will take over the retail space in February and hopes to have the project, which will include installing an elevator to access the second level, completed by June. The extra outdoor seating will be available sooner, perhaps as early as March, says Sexter, when outdoor dining on the Avenue is at a premium.

Bosphorous Turkish Cuisine also has a restaurant in the Marketplace off Sand Lake Road’s Restaurant Row, and is looking at a space in the Villages for another location.
