Bananas Closing, Mills Brewpub Coming In

Written By Scott Joseph On May 7, 2014

Saying that “the landscape has changed so much on Mills” and that it has to “keep up with the trends,” FMI Restaurant Group has announced that it will close Bananas Diner after Sunday, Mother’s Day. Following renovations, the space will reopen, perhaps in early July, as Mills Brewpub.

FMI, which also operates the nearby Funky Monkey — and another at Pointe Orlando — says it the new restaurant will be an “ultra modern beer pub and eatery” that offers a “whole new beer and dining experience for the Mills 50 district.”

FMI’s Eddie Nickell says that the diner’s popular Sunday gospel brunch, which features drag performers, will move to the Funky Monkey at Pointe Orlando.

Bananas Diner opened in 2010. FMI Restaurant Group had two other restaurant concepts close last year. Prickly Pear and Nick’s Italian Kitchen were at the Sanctuary condominiums on Eola Drive in downtown Orlando.
