Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar will open on Restaurant Row Orlando July 20

PDFPrintE-mail

Monday, July 20, is the new opening date of the long-awaited Restaurant Row Orlando location of Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar. The upsteak restaurant will occupy a newly constructed space in Dellagio Plaza. Other recent tenants include Bravo! and Cantina Laredo.

This will be the second Central Florida location for Fleming's. It opened a restaurant on the corner of Lee Road and Orlando Avenue in Winter Park in 2003. The new spot will include a patio overlooking a fountain and a water feature (please don't call it a retention pond).

Prior to the opening to the general public, Fleming's will host a benefit for Give Kids the World on Friday, July 17, with all proceeds going to the charity. Tickets to the benefit are $50.

Fleming's will be open nightly for dinner. Reservations can be made at 407-352-5706. The address of the restaurant is 8030 Via Dellagio Way, which someone recently pointed out translates to 8030 Way Dellagio Way.

Fleming's is more on the upscale range of steakhouses. The quality at the Winter Park restaurant has flagged in the last couple of years. My most recent visit was most disappointing. I had to send my steak back, which is not a good thing in a steakhouse. I'm keeping a good thought that the new location will be good, though.

You can put Flemings in the Ruth's Chris category. They offer good cuts of meat and fresh ingredients but they're still a chain, albeit a good chain (PF Chang is also owned by Paul Fleming). Flemings has some consistency issues which is something you don't want at $60 a person. There are other steakhouses that offer food that is as good or better and for less money. Sadly, the price you pay at Flemings goes less to increase the quality of the brigade and is more an attempt at "keeping out the riff-raff".

Interestingly, all the upscale steakhouses are owned by chains. Capital Grille is (Longhorn Darden); Shula's; Ruth's Chris; even Del Frisco's, which is now owned by the Lonestar chain. But the Orlando Del Frisco's still enjoys a bit of independence due to the arrangement Russ Christner made with the original Del from Dallas years ago. While all other Del Frisco's around the country carry the Double Eagle moniker, the Lee Road restaurant is still just Del Frisco's. And if the prices are high to keep out the riff-raff, I think they're going to have to jack it up some more!
