Who has the best barbecue in Central Florida?

Our search for the best pizza in Central Florida is rounding the last turn, and while we wait to see who will wind up with the most votes, it's time to start thinking about our next big search. How about barbecue?

This time I'm asking for nominations. There are 12 slots on our poll, some will be filled by the usual suspects, but I want to hear from you which 'cue joints you want to see included.

The barbecue search will begin shortly after the pizza war ends. Voting in the pizza search continues through Aug. 31 and I'll announce the winner on Sept. 1.

My friends in Memphis laughed at this idea, suggesting that trying to find the best BBQ in Florida is like trying to find the best pizza in China. I've met a lot of fair BBQ locally, but nothing worth boasting.

The only two places I go for BBQ are Porkies in Apopka, and Jack Benny's in Minneola. Jack Benny's has been around for decades!

Sonny's has got to be the best... Ahhh, just kidding. I really like Blackwater. They've got good Q. I've not had really great BBQ around here though.

My favorite in my area is Blackwater but Cecil's is good too. But as far as that goes, BBQ is like pizza in that even when it's "bad" it's still pretty good to me.

Pound for pound, the best BBQ and sides are found at Old Crow in Eustis. Kinda out of the way, but it's devine. The vegetables (collards, in particular) are the best I have ever had, and that includes my grandma's. The BBQ is just right; not so unique to be different, but just good enough to be great.

I know they're both a bit far out of town, but the best ones I've had are Jack's in Clermont (on 27 just north of 50) and Peebles in Auburndale (reopening from summer vacation soon!).

I'll second (third?) the vote for Cecil's, with Blackwater coming in a close second. It's no Kreuz Market or Salt Lick, but it's enough to keep the cravings from getting too bad before I can get back to Texas.
