Who Has the Best Sunday Brunch in Orlando?

wmfe_logo_blueOn this week’s segment on WMFE-FM, Scott talks with 90.7’s Nicole Creston about places to enjoy brunch in Central Florida. We’re heading into the Sunday brunch season soon. Easter is a big brunch day; Mother’s Day is probably the biggest all year. Father’s Day to some extent.

Brunch has been evolving over the years. It used to be that all of them were all-you-can-eat glutfests. But now the majority are more civilized a la carte affairs. Often they’ll include a prix fixe menu with a choice of selections. And sometimes it will include a complimentary mimosa or glass of Champagne.

I still think one of the best brunches in Central Florida is the one served at La Coquina at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress. The various food stations are set up in the kitchen, where guests enter to load up on salads, soups, cold seafood, salumi, cheeses and such. When you’re ready for your entree, step up to the chef’s station and place your order from among the day’s options. The chef then prepares it for you on the spot. No steam tables here. It’s gotten quite pricy, however: $67.95, though it’s a bargain when you consider the quality.

From the a la carte list, I’m a fan of the brunch at Taproom at Dubsdread, especially on the days when dining on the porch is ideal. HUE has a very popular brunch, and a stroll around Lake Eola is always nice afterwards.

Prickly Pear, just around the corner, also serves Sunday midday. Up in Winter Park, Park Plaza Gardens serves a civilized brunch, and Cocina 214 has huevos selections on its menu.

Paxia has the added benefit of serving brunch on Saturday and Sunday. I sampled the brunch there recently and enjoyed it very much. Here’s a link to more Sunday brunch listings.

How about you? Where’s your favorite brunch spot?
